Position: Strength and Conditioning Internship
Job Description:
Varsity Blues Athletics Strength and Conditioning Interns The University of Toronto is seeking interns for the Varsity Blues Strength and Conditioning Program. These are unpaid intern position for enthusiastic and hardworking individuals who wish to build their experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach. Experience is vital when working with athletes in a high performance sport environment and this internship will provide the successful applicants with a unique opportunity to work in one of the most diverse sporting environments in Canada.
Successful applicants for this position will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced Strength and Conditioning Coach and assist in the preparation and implementation of research based programming to over 160 Varsity and Elite level athletes in men’s and women’s sports including; Football, Basketball, Hockey & Field Hockey. Applicants must have CPR and First Aid and should either have or be working toward an undergraduate degree in kinesiology, physical education or equivalent.
Part-time and Full-time opportunities are available. Part time opportunities will be one or two full days per week over a 3-12 month period, applicants applying for a part-time position will have ample time to maintain a full-time job elsewhere. Full time applicants are only likely to be able to maintain part-time work outside of the internship.
This internship will provide opportunity to develop in the following key areas, as well as many others; • Periodized program design and macrocycle planning • Warm-Ups & Cool Downs/Recovery • Building programs that optimize gains in; functional size, strength, speed, explosiveness, co-ordination, proprioception, and work ethic • Practical application of some of the latest sport science technologies • Olympic weightlifting and it’s sport specific variations • Plyometrics, speed & agility development for land and ice based sports • Developing a functional core for sport
