ABOUT THE OTTAWA SPORT & SOCIAL CLUB: The Ottawa Sport & Social Club was developed from our desire to be the largest multi-sport provider in the city. This journey started in 2003 with the Ottawa Sport & Social Club (OSSC), it expanded to: Kingston in 2005 with the Kingston Sport & Social Club (KSSC); Halifax in 2008 with the Halifax Sport & Social Club (HSSC); London in 2009 with the Forest City Sport & Social Club (FCSSC); Victoria in 2010 with the Victoria Sport & Social Club (VSSC) and Lausanne, Switzerland in 2012 with Organisport. All our organizations create, organize and manage sports leagues, tournaments and special events for adults.
JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a brand new position for the firm which has arisen due to company growth. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be varied, providing excellent hands-on exposure to the complete business cycle. OSSC is a forward-thinking company and looking for a likeminded individual with a can-do attitude and someone who will be flexible in getting involved in admin and operations, taking on ad hoc duties and projects. This person will work out of the Ottawa Sport & Social Club (OSSC) office and report to the Executive Director. The position is to provide support to the satellite SSC’s (Halifax, Kingston, London and Victoria) as well as head office in Ottawa.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Financial accounting and reporting and internal control activities, including ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory compliance, as well as operational activities of all things Finance. - General ledger transactions to ensure accuracy and complete journal entries. - Accounts payable and receivable, bank account and credit card reconciliation, bank deposits, data entry & managing vendor files. - Preparation of year-end for certified accountant, monthly HST and corporate tax installment filings. - Producing monthly financial tracking sheets and assisting the firm’s Executive Director in various ad hoc duties. - Responsible for payroll calculations & processing, government remittance (payroll taxes), ROE preparation, T4 preparation, benefits management and administration. - General administration / office manager duties.
- A Diploma or a Degree in accounting or a related field. - 5+ years relevant experience. - Experience with QuickBooks and Simply Accounting is a must. - Technical aptitude in working with Microsoft Office Suite, CMS and website development tools. - Advanced Excel & IT skills. - Knowledge and passion for multiple sports. - Ability to initiate and follow through on assignments with high attention to detail. - Demonstrated leadership with good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving skills. - Capacity to manage multiple simultaneous priorities, and work in a fast pace environment - Personality will be outgoing, being required to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal & external contacts. - Bilingual would be considered an asset (but not essential).
