Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! is Canada’s largest sports festival! The program consists of a series of twenty-one (21) large-scale street hockey tournaments being held across Canada during the spring/summer of 2013. More information about the program can be found at www.playon.ca
Our organization currently has an opportunity for 1-2 interns per city to contribute meaningfully to the promotion and operation of events in Victoria, Saskatoon, Regina, Kingston & Moncton as Assistant Event Managers, as well as provide additional support of the HNIC Play On! Details: • Timeline: February 28 – July 8, 2013 (Start dates are flexible and can be combined with a part time role while in school and full time when school is finished.) • This is an unpaid, full-time internship (honorarium to be paid at completion of internship) • Fuel allowance will be provided • Attendance at weekly team meetings, (in person or conference call) required • Responsibilities may include a vast array of promotional, operational, and logistical planning and implementation tasks, social media and contest management, as well as sponsorship marketing, and servicing. Sample responsibilities include: distribution of posters/postcards, sourcing, coordinating and managing volunteers, sourcing and managing officials, sourcing vendors, Facebook/Youtube/Twitter management, blogging, partner development, team recruitment, media relations, community relations, Celebrity Game Coordination, etc. • Some travel, evenings and weekend work will be required. During actual event weeks / weekends, you will work VERY long hours!
Requirements: • Recently graduated, 4th or 3rd Year University/College student with interests in business, marketing, sport, sports marketing, sports management, and/or event management • Must reside in one of the aforementioned event cities and have an internet connection (you will work from home), a phone and access to a printer • Computer and social marketing literacy (Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube) • Must have a valid Driver’s License and complete access to a reliable vehicle • Must be physically able to perform physical tasks such as lifting/moving boxes, hockey nets, sound equipment, and other event assets (some heavy) • Experience in organizing events, driving a 26ft box truck, and managing sound systems might be considered an additional asset • Ability to speak in French will be a considerable asset
