Gloucester Recreation Development Organization

Position: Director of Operations

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Gloucester Recreation Development Organization and subcommittees, the Director of Operations is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating quality instructional skill building programs in designated communities. This will involve a wide range of administrative tasks. Other tasks related to the position involve direct involvement in problem solving, supervision of children during program, assisting in the delivery of the programs, planning and running tournaments, and other special events as required. The Director of Operations may also be responsible for fundraising and grant proposal writing. It is a great time to work for this growing, well-respected organization!


- Develop a thorough understanding of the organization, purpose and services provided by the GRDO.
- Develop a thorough understanding of GRDO’s designated communities.
- Establish related community contacts and develop these relationships.
- Work directly with the Board of Directors, sub-committees, and other staff in planning and coordinating programs for our specific target areas.
- Become thoroughly familiar with the agenda of the program and assist in the delivery.
- With the input from the staff, membership, participants and volunteers, assess the recreational needs of the communities and develop programs to meet these needs in accordance with the Gloucester Recreation Development Board’s mandate.
- Gain support of local skill instructors and enlist their involvement with skill development/recreation programs and special events.
- Recruit, screen, train, supervise and evaluate staff, volunteers and leaders in training acting as helpers and/or leaders of the skill development/recreation programs and special events
- Submit weekly monthly and yearly reports as required by the Board of Directors
- Attend related training sessions or information sessions as required.
- Perform other duties related to the successful operation and subsistence of the GRDO in respect to its mandate.
Necessary Qualifications
- A Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Administration, Social Work or equal related experience
- Bilingualism is required
- Working knowledge of a variety of relevant computer software
- Unrestricted class G driver’s license with no more than 7 demerit points accumulated and access to efficient, reliable transportation is mandatory
- First Aid, CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention are mandatory
- Training in behavior modification and coaching certification recommended
- Experience managing staff is an asset
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work with people of different cultures
- Ability to work independently and also as part of a team

Applicants must have access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to transport equipment to GRDO programs/events.

This position is for 30-35hrs per week.

Salary Range: $18.50/hour
