Position: Sports Coordinator Volunteer
Job Description:
Fuerza Latina Community Services is a registered not-for-profit organization that empowers youth and their families by promoting the well-being of the Vaughan Community through Sports, Culture, and Support Groups. We strive to create a vibrant and inclusive community for youth and their families to increase their self confidence, social skills, and embrace a second chance. We have teamed up with the York Regional Police and the City of Vaughan for a number of youth initiatives.
Description:
The Sports Coordinator will work with the Project Coordinator and volunteers to manage and ensure a successful 2013 Soccer Tournament. Our Annual Soccer Tournament will be held on May 25, 2013. The Tournament started in 2006 with 6 teams and has expanded in size to include 13 + teams, over 100 youth.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who works well as part of a team and is looking for a chance to develop their Sports Management Skills. Strong organizational skills and a greater understanding of Soccer are crucial for the success of this role. Must be able to commit to the full 4-month term with 10-15 hours of work on a weekly basis. We want people who are passionate about making a difference Vaughan and enriching the lives of youth.
Requirements:
• Experience working with youth aged 13-22
• Be able to provide a vulnerable sector screening upon hiring
• Be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
• Enjoy team work and be willing to assist other youth program leaders
• Be able to provide clear direction to youth participants
• Be able to identify issues and provide feedback to ensure smooth execution
• Manage and prioritize multiple tasks
• Excellent problem solving and time management skills
Duties Include:
• Organize and implement Soccer Tournament
• Serve as support to the Project Coordinator and President
• Coordinate and Manage volunteers (coaches, referees, student volunteers)
• Serve as support for all the participants in the sports programming
• Ensure safe set up of equipments and gym
• Excellent problem solving skills.
• Interact with Community Groups, Sports Venue, and Sponsors as necessary. • Ensure Soccer rules and guidelines are met
• Interact with youth and manage teams
