Job Description:
Position: Talent Identification Coach
Status: Full-time, Four Year Contract
Location: to be determined (relocation within Canada not anticipated)
Application Deadline: April 5th, 2013
Starting Date: May 1st, 2013 or sooner
Salary Range: $60,000 to $65,000 plus benefits

***Restrictions: Please note that a coach hired as the Talent Identification Coach is NOT eligible to receive additional coach funding through Wrestling Canada (ex. High Performance Center funds).

Nature of the Position:

Wrestling Canada is the national sport governing body for Olympic style wrestling in Canada. Among its responsibilities, the association selects and prepares Canada’s teams that participate in international competitions including Continental Championships, World Championships and major multi-sport Games (ie. Olympic Games).

Working in collaboration with our partners, Wrestling Canada supports the development and growth of wrestling in Canada. We provide athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and staff with the programs and services they need to succeed from playground to podium. With significant recent results and performance improvements the association is seeking a full-time Talent Identification Coach to develop and implement aspects of its talent identification strategy to ensure sustainable success at the highest international levels.

The Talent Identification Coach will collaborate with the National Team and High Performance Coaches, to improve the quality and quantity of high performance athletes moving through the high performance system. As this position is funded through Own the Podium funds, the Talent Identification Coach will prioritize programs supported by Own the Podium.

Key Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the High Performance Manager and National Team Coaches, the Talent Identification Coach will be responsible for the development of our talent identification system. Working with the High Performance coaches and personal coaches, he/she will improve the vertical integration of our international program’s targeted athletes. The Talent Identification Coach reports to the Executive Director and ultimately the High Performance Committee and Executive Committee.

The Talent Identification Coach will be responsible for:

*Development and Communication of the Talent Identification System
*Development and Communication of the Athlete Pathway
*Providing Training and Competition opportunities to identified athletes
*General Reporting

Qualifications & Experience:

*Fully certified at NCCP Level 3 or higher (or equivalent),
*Previous experience at major international events in the sport of wrestling,
*University degree in a related field will be an asset

NOTE: candidates without NCCP Level 3 (or equivalent) may be considered, but would be expected to take all necessary actions to completing this competency in a timely manner.

Skills & Attributes:

*Able to plan, develop, administer, implement and communicate programs,
*Able to prepare and review detailed Yearly Training Plans (YTPs), complete with macro and micro cycles, and periodization toward major international events
*Able to monitor high performance training programs,
*Excellent understanding of wrestling in Canada,
*Extremely knowledgeable in elite wrestling at an international level (technically and tactically)
*Works effectively with athletes, coaches, administrators and support staff.
*Work effectively in teams and independently,
*Self-motivated and detail oriented,
*Excellent communication skills,
*Able to communicate effectively in both oral and written form in English is essential, and in French is an asset.
