Position: Games Manager
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Games Committee Co-chairs and Sport Alliance Ontario Games Consultant, the Games Manager will manage the planning, coordination and supervision of the 2014 Ontario 55+ Summer Games, in conjunction with the volunteer based Games Organizing Committee (GOC) and the Host Municipalities.
Post-secondary education in Sports Management or Business Administration
At least three years of directly related work experience in coordinating and supervising major events including multi-sport competitions.
Excellent customer service and public relation skills. Experience working with a volunteer board and in volunteer recruitment and development.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently with keen attention to detail.
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of use of audio/visual equipment aids. Valid Class “G” Driver’s License and access to an insured personal vehicle to use on Games’ business.
Flexible work schedule to attend evening and/or weekend meetings or events as required.
Experience managing multiple portfolios.
Demonstrated crisis management skills, particularly as it relates to large event management.
As a condition of employment, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check including the Vulnerable Sector Screening, at his/her own expense, prior to beginning work in this position.
Work cooperatively with the Chairpersons and the GOC to develop the overall games strategy.
Ensure the annual operating and performance objectives are met through ongoing monitoring and communications and adjust as required.
Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of all Games Organizing Committee services and business operations, in accordance with the Bid Document and the Grant Agreement.
Co-ordinate all meetings including agenda preparation associated with 2014 Ontario 55+Summer Games.
Co-ordinate the activities of the Games Organizing Committee (Executive, Games Organizing Committee, and Divisional committees).
Liaison with Ontario Senior Games Association and Sport Alliance Ontario to ensure that all requirements and competition needs are met.
Facilitate an effective communication system between all members of the Games Organizing Committee.
Attend Games Organizing Committee meetings and Executive meetings.
Manage the administrative office and oversee administrative duties.
Co-ordinate and implement strategies for volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, support and recognition with the Volunteer Chairperson.
Assist with promotions, media and marketing endeavors to create a positive image for the Games and the Host Municipalities.
Assist with hospitality, awards and protocol needs for the Games.
Prepare reports, including final report, as required. Other duties as assigned.
