Position: Head Coach - Women's Hockey

Job Description:
To act as head coach and administrator of an inter-university sports team; to assist with the administration of a variety of departmental programs and services.


Completion of a post-secondary degree program with a focus on Physical Education or 4 years of specialized training.


A minimum of 5 years, but less than 6 years as a coach or athlete at an elite level. NCCP Level III certification is required. Experience in sports administration is beneficial. More than 6 months up to and including 1 year on-the-job experience after hiring is required to develop basic understanding of how different areas (e.g. developing contacts, networking, administrative functions, etc.) relating to coaching and administering a total team program at Ryerson.

Requires a criminal reference check.


-Creates a season plan; determines team goals and in conjunction with the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and the Athletic Therapist determines the method of conditioning and training to be undertaken.

-Establishes, administers and maintains an aggressive recruiting program on and off campus for an interuniversity sports team program.

-Plans, attends, schedules, implements and coaches the team's practice sessions. Analyzes competitive systems, develops and adjusts team offensive and defensive systems, and compiles and analyses team statistical and historical information.

-Counsels, supports, advises and monitors team members’ individual needs. Assists with time management, goal setting, academic performance, etc.

-Organizes, administers and coaches the team within the Ontario Universities Athletics (OUA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) leagues. Follows league rules and regulations, participates in league contests and attends all OUA Coaches' meetings as required.

-Provides feedback to the Varsity Operations and Facilities Manager regarding draft conference schedules circulated by the OUA convenor. Plans and recommends to the Varsity Operations and Facilities Manager, Ryerson's non-conference and tournament schedules.

-Recommends travel and accommodation arrangements to Varsity Operations and Facilities Manager. Develops itinerary for team travel for booking purposes.

-Assists Associate Director, Athletics in the development of team budget and operates within allocated team budget guidelines.

-Ensures maintenance of team equipment and supplies. Assesses inventory at the end of each season. Recommends to the Varsity Equipment Coordinator purchases of new equipment and supplies. Works within team budget and Ryerson purchasing standards.

-Promotes the team program within Ryerson and the community. Liaises with internal departments such as Admissions and Student Services. Maintains on- and off-campus media contacts.

-Assists in the administration of a variety of departmental programs, projects and services as assigned including but not limited to:

-Organizing the interuniversity sports banquet
-Production of team brochures
-Preview Nights and Discover Ryerson Days,
-Academic Success Program
-Fund raising activities
-Alumni events
Assisting Associate Athletic Director with the administration of the interuniversity sports teams.

-Assigns and coordinates work of part-time support staff.

-Maintains and upgrades coaching level.

-Follows all Athletics risk management policies maintains team safety while on trips and at practices and at games. Follows Ryerson’s Harassment and Discrimination policy.

-Performs other related duties as required.

Salary Range: $73,796.62-$93,483.35 HOURS OF WORK: 36.25
