Position: Web Developer (Contract)

Job Description:
The Canadian Curling Association (CCA) is the national sport governing body responsible for the development, promotion and organization of curling in Canada. In cooperation with its Provincial and Territorial Member Associations from across Canada, the CCA provides programs and services to curlers ranging from the youngest ‘little rocker’ (age 7 and up), to those participating at ages 70 and over – and from aspiring Olympians to Canadians with special needs, coaches, curling facility operators, ice makers and officials.

The CCA also oversees and provides the comprehensive management of the Season of Champions event portfolio, develops and administers the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) for Olympic qualification, and organizes and operates the championship system for Juniors (under 20), Seniors (over 50), Mixed, Women, Men, University and Wheelchair.

The Opportunity
Currently, we are searching for an outstanding Web Developer to join our Information Services and Technology (IST) team, to build and integrate interactive websites, applications and services. Reporting to the Director, Information Services and Technology, the Web Developer will be responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting organizational websites and web-based applications. This contract position may require some business and/or event-related travel, specifically during selected winter months.

This is a 12-month contract position. (Not a full-time employee)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Working closely with other members of the IST team to create new and exciting web sites and web-based applications;
• Create and modify WordPress themes and plugins; • Develop custom self-contained, database-driven web applications (primarily with PHP/MySQL)
• Maintenance and upgrades to existing websites and applications in various languages including PHP and ASP.Net
• Provide technology support services for the organization through the Service Desk.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned


• In-depth knowledge of Web technologies, protocols and tools
• Strong understanding of PHP, MySQL and WordPress
• Strong understanding of jQuery
• Strong understanding of JSON
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Knowledge of other programming languages, including ASP.Net, Java and Visual Basic
• Knowledge of networking and connectivity protocols and technologies
• Thorough understanding of application development methodologies
• Proven experience in installing, upgrading and maintaining Web servers and associated operating systems

Remuneration will be commensurate with the experience of the applicant.
