Position : National Sport Coordinator

Position Title: National Sport Coordinator
Reporting To: Vice President of Sport

Primary Area of Responsibility
The Sport Program Coordinator, in consultation with the Vice President of Sport, directs and develops volunteer development programs; Families Network; Healthy Athletes; Youth Development Programs; and the National Awards Program. This position also works with the Manager Sport in delivery of the Coaching program and the National Awards Programs. In addition the Sport Program Coordinator provides support to the National Team Program; National Games; and Team Canada’s participation in World Games.

Responsibilities
The Sport Program Coordinator has the following accountabilities:
• Lead staff and volunteers in the development and delivery (both program and marketing) of Volunteer Development; Families Network; Healthy Athletes; and Youth Development Programs;
• Direct and develop the National Awards Program;
• Provide on-going Chapter, and customer service, support in those above mentioned programs;
• Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget for those above mentioned programs;
• Ensure the work undertaken is focused on the goals and priorities of the Long Term Athlete Development Model and Strategic Plan;
• Assist in the Sport Canada funding application, and other granting opportunities, to support the above mentioned programs;
• Participate in the partnership and communication framework with Chapters, Program Council and sport sub-committees of the Board;
• Liaise with National Sport Organizations and other partners and stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services;
• Provide support to the annual Special Olympic Festival and other special events;
• Attend conference, forums, workshops and other functions to promote the missions of Special Olympics in Canada and the inclusion of Special Olympics athletes and coaches in the Canadian Sport System;
• Advocate on behalf of Special Olympics’ athletes, coaches and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A University Degree in Sport/Recreation Management or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years experience.
• Knowledge of the Canadian sport system and the roles of governments, NSOs and MSOs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to develop and maintain partnerships.
• Ability to communicate in Canada’s two official languages is a definite asset.
• Strong project management skills with an attention to detail;
• A self-directed and enthusiastic team player attitude;
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
