SIRC Stands Among Leaders in Sport at Fall Conference

October 31, 2001

On October 19-21, 2001 in Toronto, ON, leaders in Canadian sport gathered at the Sport Leadership Conference to address the state of Canada's sport system and to stress the importance of collaboration and resource sharing among sport governing bodies. It was an opportunity for SIRC to share information sought by leaders in sport.

References from SIRC's SPORTDiscus were available to conference delegates and presenters. These references complimented workshop topics such as 'mental preparation, 'sport and first aid', 'sport physiology', 'government relations' and 'coaching and children'. David Carmichael, former Director of National Projects, ParticipACTION and presenter at the recent Sport Leadership conference recognizes the value of SIRC's database in his research. "By subscribing to SPORTDiscus, I was able to easily conduct keyword searches, access abstracts and obtain articles that I needed to make parents more aware of the importance of providing children with positive sport experiences"

With over 600,000 references from over 52 international contributors, the SPORTDiscus is the leading source of sport and sport related information. The basic, intermediate and advanced research content of the database is a valuable resource for coaches, administrators and officials in Canada. Canada is striving to strengthen the Canadian sport system and through the SPORTDiscus database and our delivery of sport information, SIRC also participates in the effort to develop excellence and future successes in sport.
