Collège Montmorency win after trailing at half time
(Cornwall, Ontario – March 21, 2006) Québec’s Collège Montmorency capture their first gold medal since 1996 at the 2006 PCL Constructors CCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship.
With a score of 77-54 over Camosun College, Montmorency was victorious in their first round of the tournament and advanced to the second round. The Nomades beat the seventh-ranked Champlain Regional College Cavaliers 64-48, moving on to face the Sheridan College Bruins in the gold medal game. Playing on their home court, the Bruins appeared ready to give the hometown crowd a big victory. After trailing at half time 43-24, the Nomades stepped up their defence and came alive on offence, outscoring the Bruins 43-19 in the second half and closing the game with a 67-63 victory. Champlain Regional College took home the bronze by defeating the Humber Hawks 56-55 in a game that proved to be a thriller to the end.
“After two years of fundraising, planning and finally execution, the PCL Constructors CCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship comes to a close. The event included terrific crowds and even better basketball and I can honestly say that I can’t believe it is already over,” said Brian Laundry, Tournament Coordinator. “Congratulations to Montmorency who showed grit and determination to overcome not only a sizable deficit, but the intensity of the Bruins crowd. Lastly, I’d like to thank our athletics staff and volunteers for making this tournament such a huge success! I wish all fans and participants the very best during this off season.”
