TORONTO STEALTH NAME RICHARD DEAN HEAD COACH
(Toronto, Ontario, March 2, 2009) The Toronto Stealth is pleased to announce the hiring of Richard Dean as head coach in its inaugural season. Dean, a certified level three basketball coach, will coach his first game for the Stealth at Ryerson University on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Dean’s basketball background is vast. He is currently the assistant coach of the Ryerson Rams men’s team, where he has been coaching for 11 seasons. Prior to that, he was the assistant coach for the Ryerson Rams women’s team for nine years. From 1989-1992, he was the head coach of the senior boys team at West Hill Collegiate Institute, where he coached Canadian basketball great Rowan Barrett, who made stops in the NBA and European professional leagues.
Dean learned how to be a winner early. As a player at George Brown College in Toronto, his team went undefeated in Canada for two years and won the inaugural CCAA national title.
Throughout the basketball community Dean is known as someone who gives individual instruction on a very high level. Through extensive one-on-one instruction, he has helped players such as Barrett, Alex Beason, Chris Szarka, Daniela Puhst, Trisha Hylton, Amanda Redhead and Joey Imbrogno.
“I am very excited by what lies ahead this summer for elite female basketball players,” says Richard Dean. “The Toronto Stealth basketball operation is an opportunity for women to enhance and expose their game at a very high level. Those who dream of assertively taking their game to the next level now have a tool to help them get there. I am committed to helping these young ladies reach their dreams and I can hardly wait for the first ball to start bouncing.”
The Toronto Stealth is Canada's first expansion team in the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL). The WBCBL is a semi-professional league which has operated since 2005. Teams play a 10 game regular season schedule over an eleven week period.
The Toronto Stealth is partners with Ryerson University and The Bishop Strachan School. They will play their home games on Saturday evenings from May to August at Ryerson University’s Kerr Hall Gymnasium in downtown Toronto and will make their home debut May 16, 2009 at 7 p.m. The complete WBCBL schedule will be announced shortly.
