CYA Welcomes New Board for 2001 - 2002

KINGSTON, Ontario -- November 6, 2001 -- At the Annual General Meeting of
The Canadian Yachting Association, which took place on Sunday, November 4,
the following officers were elected to the Board of Directors for the year
2001-2002:
President - Fiona Kidd, Toronto, Ontario;
Senior Vice-president - David Sprague, Toronto, Ontario;
Secretary and Treasurer - Glen Forbes, Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador
VP Training - Colin Jackson, Vancouver, B.C.;
VP Canadian Sailing Team -Evert Bastet, Hudson, Quebec;
VP Recreation - Michael Vollmer, Burlington, Ontario.
Fiona Kidd is elected for a second consecutive term. A veteran of 30 years
of experience in sailing, Ms. Kidd is a former member of the Canadian
Sailing Team in the 420 class. She obtained her instructor qualifications in
the early 1970s. More recently, Fiona has been involved in sailing
management, both as a paid professional with the Laser class, and as a
volunteer and board member with the CYA, and the International Sailing
Federation (ISAF). Currently, she serves as Chair of theYouth Championship
Sub Committee and member of the Events Committee for ISAF.

David Sprague, Glen Forbes, Colin Jackson and Ronald Kobrick are serving for
the first time, while Evert Bastet and Michael Vollmer are returning to
their portfolios.

The CYA is the national governing body for the sport of sailing. The
Association's mission is to encourage participation and excellence in
sailing and racing. The CYA achieves its goals through collaboration with
its 10-member provincial sailing associations and close to 300 member yacht
clubs. The Association's head office is located in Kingston's Portsmouth
Olympic Harbour complex.
