ISU Junior Grand Prix Makes its Fourth Stop in Romania

Skate Canada will have four entries at the fourth stop on the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Brasov, Romania from September 22-24, 2011. Canada will be represented in two disciplines, men’s, and ice dance.

Leading the men’s division is Nam Nguyen, 13, Burnaby, B.C. Nguyen placed 12th at his first ISU Junior Grand Prix assignment in Latvia. He has previously competed at the 2010 and 2011 Skate Canada Junior Nationals placing third and first, respectively. Nguyen is coached by Joanne McLeod at the B.C. Centre of Excellence.

Peter O’Brien, 17, Ameliasburgh, Ont., is the second entry in the men’s discipline. This is his first season on the ISU Junior Grand Prix circuit. In 2011 he placed third at the Skate Canada Junior Nationals. He trains out of the Pierrefonds Figure Skating Club and is coached by Eric Therrien and Lynette Deshaies Ouellette.

Laurence Fournier Beaudry, 19, Greenfield Park, Que., and Yoan Breton, 18, Saint-Alexandre, Que., will be one of two entries for Canada in ice dance. They placed sixth at the 2011 Skate Canada Junior Nationals and this is their first year on the ISU Junior Grand Prix circuit. They are coached by Julien Lalonde and Mylene Girard at LMK International in Saint-Hubert, Que.

Also competing in ice dance are Mackenzie Bent, 14, Uxbridge, Ont., and Garrett MacKeen, 17, Oshawa, Ont. They won bronze in novice ice dance at the 2011 Skate Canada Junior Nationals. This is also their first year on the ISU Junior Grand Prix circuit. They train at Scarboro Ice Dance Elite with coach Juris Razgulajevs.

Petra Burka of Toronto, Ont., is the team leader at the event and Elizabeth Clark of Ottawa, Ont., and Sylvain Guibord of Brossard, Que., are the Canadian officials at the event.
