2005 Mazda CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship asuccess

2005 Mazda CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship a success

(Cornwall, ON - March 16, 2005) The top-seeded Volontaires from Collège de Sherbrooke (Sherbrooke, QC) captured the 2005 Mazda CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship title for its second consecutive year.

Lead by CCAA Player of the Year Marie-Christine Mondor, the Volontaires defended their title against the Red Deer Queens (Red Deer, AB) in the final round. Following a tough battle and outstanding play, the Queens succumbed to Sherbrooke’s strength in four sets and captured the silver medal.
The Cambrian Golden Shields secured a third place win against the Grand Prairie Regional College Wolves in the bronze medal game. Following a disappointing loss against arch rivals Sherbrooke in the quarter-final round and a upsetting defeat in the bronze medal qualifying round, host team Collège François-Xavier-Garneau finished 5 th overall .

“This year’s Women’s Volleyball Nationals was an exciting event, in that each match was played fiercely and passionately,” stated Fred Batley, CCAA President.
“No matter where your team was seeded going in, it did not guarantee a distinct advantage.
This made for some exciting volleyball throughout the tournament, and it showcased the talent and skill from across Canada in a positive light. The top four teams were ranked numbers 1, 7, 6 and 3 entering the tournament, which attests to the strength of women's volleyball throughout the country. Finally, F.-X.-Garneau did a fantastic job hosting the event, focusing solely on making this the best experience possible for the athletes.”
