Harden brothers continue to find all-around success
With rodeos being held in High Prairie, La Crete, Drumheller and Grimshaw, Alta., it was another busy week of competition and travel for the pro cowboys and cowgirls as they compete for a chance to qualify for the 32nd Canadian Finals Rodeo, to be held in Edmonton, Alta., November 9-13.
Current Canadian all-around standings leader Jeremy Harden won money in both of his competitive events this past weekend.
Harden won the steer wrestling at the North Peace Stampede (Grimshaw) with a 3.9-second run, worth $1,259 as well as winning $310 after a fifth-place finish at the Field of Dreams Stampede (La Crete). The $1,569 he won over the course of the weekend boosts his all-around total to $16,007.
In order to be eligible for the all-around championship, a cowboy must place at three separate rodeos in a riding event and three (3) separate rodeos in a timed event.
Jeremy’s younger brother, Josh, has also qualified for the all-around race this year, but is unlikely to claim the coveted championship buckle. Canadian champions are determined on a sudden-death basis at the CFR, and the younger Harden will not have enough earned to qualify for his first Finals in either of his events this year.
But Jeremy, who finished fourth last year in the all-around race has a very good shot at claiming his first title this year. With 17 rodeos left on the 2005 schedule, the only other all-around qualifier is Dalton Kraft (Medicine Hat, Alta.), who is currently on the outside looking in. Kraft sits in the 16th-place spot in the tie-down roping standings.
Should Harden be the only qualified cowboy in the Canadian all-around standings at the end of the season with a CFR berth, he would be declared the 2005 Canadian champion.

Bareback riders cash in at all four rodeos
Troy Tattrie (Youngstown, Alta.) and Rodney Ruxton (New Zealand) made money at all four CPRA rodeos held last week.
Tattrie split first place with Dusty LaValley (Debolt, Alta.) at High Prairie, won La Crete, came in third at Drumheller and split third and fourth at Grimshaw, worth a total of $2,822 over the run. Tattrie moved into the 8th-place spot in the Canadian standings.
Ruxton, who’s had an incredible run this year in Canada since returning from his home in New Zealand, won a total of $2,147. The talented Kiwi has won a total of $13,204 in Canada this year.
