This article highlights design issues that could be overlooked when planning renovations. Lessons learned from a fitness facility are provided highlighting problems that they encountered such as location of water fountains, not having clocks, and the transition between tiles to carpet in the locker rooms. Jen, L. (2007, November). BEND IT LIKE BRAMPTON. Canadian Architect, 52(11), 22-26.
The article describes the architectural design of the Brampton Soccer Centre in Brampton, Ontario. Maclennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects easily won the 2003 project because of its great deal of experience in designing recreation and community centres. Initially, the project was intended to be a more generic type of arena complex that could accommodate a variety of sports. However, changes at the city meant a shift in perspective towards a more specific purpose. It became a soccer centre because a large percentage of the city's population favored soccer.

Reid, R. (2007, February). Strengthened Parking Garage Supports High-Rise Ice Rinks. Civil Engineering (08857024), 77(2), 12-13.
The article focuses on the construction of rooftop ice skating rinks at the Ballston Common Mall's parking garage in Arlington, Virginia. The two ice skating rinks measure 200 by 85 feet and also include a mezzanine. Architecture Inc., the designer of the facility, faced a hard time seeking out people who have knowledge in constructing an elevated rink that would remain flat and level enough to avoid cracks in the ice. Columns throughout the structure were either strengthened or installed to support the rinks.
