Infrastructure

The 2009 Canadian Federal Budget takes direct aim at the long standing infrastructure deficit in sport and recreation with the new Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Fund. For the Sport Community, the increase in dedicated funds means new facilities and desperately needed upgrades will be made to hockey arenas, soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, swimming pools and much more across Canada. If your organization has a “shovel ready” project, get ready to contact your regional development agencies to access the funds.

If you would like more information on the budget and how it could affect your organization, here are some organizations to contact. Funds for RInC will be delivered through the regional development agencies in Canada. For the most up to date information on the RInC fund it is best to stay in contact with your provincial, municipal and regional agencies in sport and recreation. The Sport Matters Group (SMG) is a group of volunteers who work together to increase the resources available for sport in Canada. After attending the 2009 Budget announcement they highlighted areas that sport and recreation can tap into for funding (over and above the RInC fund).

Dear SIRC Librarian:
We have partial funds to construct new recreation centre. Are there matching funds that can be solicited for this type of project?

Thanks,
