Ask a SIRC Librarian
Dear SIRC Librarian:
We have partial funds to construct new recreation centre. Are there matching funds that can be solicited for this type of project?
Thanks,
Kevin
Dear Kevin:
Thank you for emailing SIRC with your question.
In the budget it states that there will be a 50/50 matching fund for "shovel ready” projects. Federal officials will now be at work assembling this new program and determining how Regional Development Agencies (like Western Economic Diversification) will deliver it in partnership with organizations like yours, the province, and municipalities. I would encourage you to get ready by itemizing how much money you can bring to the table, determining your level of "shovel-readiness" and begin connect with recreation & sport leaders in your area so that you can stay on top of how the Regional Agency will proceed.
Groups like Sport Alberta, Recreation Alberta, and the Calgary Sport Council will be among the first to learn more about the actual details as they are assembled by the federal government agencies in the Western region. If you want to see the exact budget details, check www.fin.gc.ca (p. 146) or the Sport Matters Group website: www.sportmatters.ca.
Contact information for Regional Agencies in your area is:
Western Economic Diversification (BC-MB)
Minister of State: The Honourable Lynne Yelich
Deputy Minister: Oryssia Lennie, Telephone: (780) 495-5772
Website: http://www.wd.gc.ca/eng/home.asp
The Sport Matters Group has a distribution list and sends out information as soon as it is released. If you would like to be added to this list you can do so on their website at http://www.sportmatters.ca.
If you have additional questions please contact us anytime.
Sincerely,
Your SIRC Librarian
