Ask a SIRC Librarian
SIRC members have access to SIRC librarians and we are pleased to share some of your questions.
Dear SIRC Librarian:
Do you have any guidelines for screening volunteers for sport clubs? How would I find this in Sport Discus with full-text? Is it available in full text and can the result be emailed to me?
Thanks in advance,
John
Dear John:
Thank you for sending an email to Ask-A-Librarian. SIRC does have documents that discuss guidelines for screening volunteers that may be of interest to you. Some examples are:
This is a search that you can do in the SportDiscus with Full Text by combining the following terms:
- Recruitment, volunteer*
- Management, volunteer*
- Hiring, volunteer*
When you use the (*) you are truncating the word so in the case of volunteer* you would search for volunteer, volunteering, volunteerism.
Also you can use the search operators in the search boxes to expand your search. An example would be:
Box One: Recruiting
Box Two: Management (change drop down box from and to or)
Box Three: Hiring (change drop down box from and to or)
This will expand your search to include recruiting OR management OR hiring looking for documents that may contain any of those terms.
You can use the Search history/Alerts tab to combine searches that you have done.
If you find material that you like you can click on the “Add” section and it will collect the articles into a folder where you can then email/download/ or print the references in the citation style of your choice.
Hopefully this will have answered your question. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further requests.
Sincerely,
Your SIRC Librarian
