Sponsorship and Meeting Management
Structure, preparation, goal-setting and follow-up are all very important components of a successful meeting. Whether you are hosting a staff, board or partnership meeting time is of the essence and you want to ensure that you are getting the most out of the experience.
Sponsorship is a very important part of the sporting community. The same principles of a successful meeting can be applied to a sponsorship arrangement to ensure that both sides will get the most out of their partnership. Understanding new, unique ways of partnering may make your organization stand out and secure new sponsors.

Meetings
What happens before a meeting is often as important as what happens during it. Indeed, the success of most meetings is determined long before the gavel comes down. Get your next board or committee meeting off to a strong start by asking— and answering—the following questions beforehand.

Meeting Manners
Many of us dismiss etiquette as just plain common courtesy. But according to a 2001 telephone survey administered by Public Agenda, courtesy is not as common as we would like to think. Eight in 10 Americans surveyed felt that a lack of respect and courtesy is a serious problem in our society. Forty-one percent even admitted to being a part of the problem by behaving badly themselves.

Strategic Sponsorship Process
The sport organization must reflect on its objectives for corporate sponsorship, and what it has to offer a prospective sponsor. The organization's objectives may be to attain funds, goods or services, raise awareness, increase credibility, and/or create or enhance an image. Although financial or in-kind resources may be the critical and immediate need of the sport organization, image enhancement and increased exposure, and further sponsorships and revenues that may accrue from that exposure, are important benefits that may result from associating with a particular sponsor.

Why We Need Sponsors?
Through development of sponsor partnerships with corporations, we do find revenue opportunities; however, this is far from ‘free money’. Most corporations use these sponsorships as an extension of their marketing efforts – since they, too, must remain financially responsible to their shareholders and to the company as a whole. Therefore, when we enter these partnerships, the corporation is expecting a return from their investment .

Meaning Transfer
Positive media coverage is understood to enhance the endorsement value of an athlete for consumer brand marketing, yet little research has examined the relationship between the decision-making processes in sports reporting and marketing and how these collectively affect the creation of an athlete’s image and its transfer to a consumer brand.

Is This Sponsor Right for My Event?
Trade shows, conventions, and events offer a bonanza of sponsorship opportunities. But in order to sustain a successful, long-term sponsorship strategy, it's crucial to make sure you get the right sponsors. It's easy to enter into a partnership with the first company that comes along and plaster its name and logo all over the convention center, on the program guide, in the hospitality suite, even on the tote bags everyone carries around all day. Just make sure it's good business for them as well as for you.

Ask A SIRC Librarian |
|

SIRC members have access to SIRC librarians and we are pleased to share some of your questions.
Dear SIRC Librarian:
I am working on a report for use with our athletes where a nutrition plan would be linked to the overall annual training plan. I want to find sources describing how much various minerals and vitamins are used during various activities and how long it takes to replace them. We have lists of foods and their contents (the nutrients) but now we need to determine how much is consumed, and how fast it can be supplied, so that meal/snacks can be better planned. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks
Ken, TKD coach
