SIRC Proud Sponsor of School Sports Week – October 15-22, 2005

Presented by Canadian School Sport Federation

October 15, 2005 – SIRC (Sport Information Resource Centre) is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Canadian School Sport Federation initiative – The 2005 School Sports Week Poster Program.

Debra Gassewitz, President and CEO of SIRC, expressed her enthusiasm about being involved with the CSSF initiative.  “Numerous studies around the world have shown the positive impact sport and physical activity have on academic and non-academic goals.  Participation in sport is known to enhance students’ work ethic, discipline, time management, organizational skills as well as their self esteem and levels of energy and their concentration.  SIRC is a strong supporter of promoting the total development of student athletes through interscholastic sport in high-schools.”

SIRC is a leading source for academic and medical sport research, providing educational resources and information tools to students, teachers, coaches, athletes, sports medicine professionals and sporting organizations worldwide.

Peter Corby, Executive Director of NBIAA/ASINB (New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association / L'Association Sportive Interscolaire Du Nouveau-Brunswick) and Project Leader for CSSF School Sports Week Poster Program is equally delighted about this partnership with SIRC.  “We all jointly share the core objective of encouraging and promoting good sportsmanship, citizenship and development of student athletes.  It is fitting that SIRC has stepped forward and offered its support.  CSSF is proud to welcome SIRC as their Silver Sponsor.”

During the week of October 15th to the 22nd, 2005, approximately 4,000 high schools across Canada will be celebrating school sport.  Posters which are initially distributed in early September will inform and encourage students as to how to get involved with school sports by contacting their respective Physical Education Departments.

The Canadian School Sport Federation adopted this project in 2002 to promote the values of high-school sports.

About CSSF:

The CSSF recognizes that interscholastic sport has been an integral part of school life in Canada for nearly a century.  As we head into the new millennium, it is vital that the CSSF continue to advocate on behalf of its member provinces so that interscholastic sport has a strong federal voice and speaks on its behalf regarding issues of national importance.
