Exploring Athlete Image Rights

The field of athlete image rights is more complex and lucrative than ever before.

This talk will explore basic concepts:

  • What are image rights?
  • Who has an ownership interest in image rights?
  • What can be done with image rights?

The discussion will also explore techniques and legal concepts providing the sport organization with a better understanding for managing in this area.

 

About the speaker:

Brian Ward has been a lawyer for almost 20 years, working exclusively in the sport field for the past ten. He has represented athletes, associations and international federations in contractual and sponsorship related matters of all types. Brian has also lectured and published in the area of sport law. Brian is presently working on a paper for presentation and publication on the issue of “Athlete Image Rights”. Brian has also shared his knowledge as an instructor for the Sport Business Management program at Algonquin College.
